Creating New
We can also invest in American jobs by investing in America, and rebuilding our roads and bridges. I've proposed a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank that will invest $60 billion over ten years. This will multiply into almost half a trillion dollars of additional infrastructure spending and generate nearly two million new jobs - many of them in the construction industry that's been hard hit by the housing crisis we're facing. States already have funds for infrastructure and roads. If they choose to spend it on other things that’s the states problems, and the same goes for the federal government. Creating a new Federal bank with more regulations and more tax money will not help the problem. We need to keep it up to the states and cities to budget these things and use incentives through private companies to help build them better, faster, and stronger. In addition, we've also got to do more to create the green jobs that are jobs of the future. My energy plan will put $150 billion over ten years into establishing a green energy sector that will create up to 5 million new jobs over the next two decades - including jobs right here in Ohio that pay well and can't be outsourced. We'll also provide funding to help manufacturers convert to green technology and help workers learn the skills they need for these jobs. The free market place should determine if these “green jobs” will survive. Throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at these industries won’t help if the marketplace doesn’t want to buy what they have to offer. In creating these 5 million new jobs you will have lost so many more jobs of “un-green” status. Where does all this money come from? What gives the government the right to convert businesses into ones the government likes? How is this in the power of the president? That's why I'll make college affordable with an annual $4,000 tax credit if you're willing to do community service, or national service. We will invest in you, but we'll ask you to invest in your country. Sounds not just like Socialism but Communism all around. There is nothing wrong with community service or other service to our country, but making people? College is another Free enterprise service that should be out of the hands of the government. I'm proposing a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank that will invest $60 billion over ten years. This investment will multiply into almost half a trillion dollars of additional infrastructure spending and generate nearly two million new jobs Why do we need a new bank, with so much money dedicated to it? Every state has a budget for infrastructure. Why do we need a new federal bank? We would be spending more money with more overhead, and it would be more inefficient, just look at any other government run agency. My energy plan will invest $150 billion over ten years to establish a green energy sector that will create up to 5 million new jobs over the next two decades - jobs that pay well and can't be outsourced. The free market should take care of this. Why have the federal government invest tax money, from the hard working tax payers in this country, into a program that most businesses know won’t work. Obama will create a program to inform businesses about the benefits of flexible work schedules What? The government doesn’t need to “create” any new programs. This is just dumb anyway, pandering to unions I guess. There are nearly 37 million poor Americans. Most Americans living in poverty work, but still cannot afford to make ends meet. Read the Heritage Foundation’s report on Americas Poor. Our poor in America live better than the middle class in most other nations in this world. There are plenty of ways to help the poor but the best one is to provide more “valuable” jobs. Obama will invest $1 billion over five years in transitional jobs and career pathway programs Why? How is this, the job of the federal government? Obama will create a program to directly engage disadvantaged youth in energy efficiency opportunities to strengthen their communities Again, how is this, the job of the federal government? If the states or local communities want to use the money in their budgets to fund these programs, that’s okay. It’s not okay for the federal government. Obama will create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund to develop affordable housing in mixed-income neighborhoods. This has been done, (the new deal) and has not helped. Why go back to programs that don’t work? Health Care My universal health care plan brings down the cost of health care more than any other candidate in this race, and will save the typical family up to $2500 a year on their premiums. The government doesn’t have the power to control the health care system or its premiums. There are lots of things we can do to improve health care and lower the cost, but handing it over to government control never works. Look at the UK, Canada, and any other socialist European country. My plan would bring down premiums for the typical family by $2500 a year. We'd ban insurance companies from denying you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. How and where did the $2500 figure come from? How does the government have the power to “ban” any company’s policies, unless they break federal laws? Tax Cutting Those are the voices I carried with me to the Illinois state Senate, where I brought Democrats and Republicans together to expand health insurance to 150,000 children and parents; where I led the fight to provide $100 million in tax relief for working families and the working poor. Health insurance is a good thing to have, just don’t let the government take it over. Tax relief if great for all Americans why only focus on one or two groups. Pandering? I'll change our tax code so that it's simple, fair, and advances opportunity, not the agenda of some lobbyist. I am the only candidate in this race who's proposed a genuine middle-class tax cut that will provide relief to 95% of working Americans. This is a tax cut -paid for in part by closing corporate loopholes and shutting down tax havens - that will offset the payroll tax that working Americans are already paying, and it'll be worth up to $1000 for a working family. We'll also eliminate income taxes for any retiree making less than $50,000 per year, because our seniors are struggling enough with rising costs, and should be able to retire in dignity and respect. Since the Earned Income Tax Credit lifts nearly 5 million Americans out of poverty each year The Democratic Party has more lobbyist, groups, and organizations that it panders to and is obligated to then any other party. What is the definition of a rich American? How much can you make that change you to being a good American to a rich “bastard” American? Tax cuts to everyone help stimulate the economy. 95% of Americans pay 5% of taxes, which means that 5% of the rich “bastard” Americans pay 95% of taxes. It's also time to bring the cost of living down for working families who are struggling in this economy like never before. They're facing rising costs and falling wages, and we owe it to them to end the Bush-McCain tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% and put a tax cut into the pockets of the families who need it. When I am President, we will give our children the best possible start by investing in early childhood education. We'll stop talking about how great our teachers are, and start rewarding them for their greatness, with better pay and more support. And we will provide every American with a $4,000 a year tax credit that will finally help make a college education affordable and available for all. First of all, McCain was against the Bush Tax Cuts. Why would he lump him in with Bush on this? Secondly, the Bush tax cuts did more than just reduce taxes on the “wealthiest 2%”, but in doing so we have had a surplus in tax revenue. Lower taxes equal more revenue. The “wealthiest” rich “bastard” Americans pay upwards of 40% in taxes, this is a disincentive to produce money and goods. When the tax rate is lower more people want to strive to hit that next height. Small businesses and working class Americans benefit from the rich spending money and providing jobs. First, I'll give a tax cut to working people. When a single mom gets her paycheck, that check gets taxed. When she goes to buy groceries, that purchase gets taxed. When she reaches her retirement, her social security benefit gets taxed. Tax cuts are good for all Americans! What happens to this single mom happens to everyone else in America, except if you work real hard, start a business, employee other Americans, and you want to leave something for you children then that is taxed as well. It’s the endless entitlement programs that are bankrupting this country, and look how much more Obama wants for us. If he gives tax cuts to the “middle class” (who knows how he defines that) then everyone will pay more in the future. Pandering To many Americans, the words "New Orleans" call up images of broken levees; water rushing through the streets; mothers holding babies up to avoid the flood. And worse - the memory of a moment when America's government failed its citizens. Because when the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast extended their hand for help, help wasn't there. When people looked up from the rooftops, for too long they saw empty sky. When the winds blew and the floodwaters came, we learned that for all of our wealth and power, something wasn't right with America. Talk about using fear in your politics. It was the government that broke on that day but not the federal government as much as the local government. The local government used the money that was supposed to go to the levees for other things. The local government wasn’t equipped to handle the evacuation. New Orleans wasn’t the hardest hit in this disaster but no one ever talks about how other states or cities had so many problems like they did. John McCain is a good man, an American hero, and we honor his half century of service to this nation. But in this campaign, he has made the decision to embrace the failed policies George Bush's Washington. Not worth a real response... it would be to long... And finally, tonight we heard President Bush say that the surge in Iraq is working, when we know that's just not true. The surge is working and if you would open your eyes. We are building schools and keeping civility in the streets trying to allow the government to work out their issues. If you judge the progress of a country on how well the government works together then we can’t say that American is a progressing country. Abraham Lincoln laid out a core principle: "Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. I think all Conservatives agree that labor is superior to capital, that’s why we fight to reduce or eliminate taxes on labor. Capitalism is built on the principal that millions of people’s labor can drive a nation’s economy. Yes, capital is the fruit of labor, that’s why people continually work hard. “I believe that America's free market has been the engine of America's great progress. It's created a prosperity that is the envy of the world. It's led to a standard of living unmatched in history. And it has provided great rewards to the innovators and risk-takers who have made America a beacon for science, and technology, and discovery…We are all in this together. From CEOs to shareholders, from financiers to factory workers, we all have a stake in each other's success because the more Americans prosper, the more America prospers.” Sounds like words from Ronald Reagan, not Obama. Capitalism does work and it has driven America to the greatest most prosperous country in the world, along with our freedom. The endless bureaucracies and regulations on our free market is what drives out businesses and hurts our economy. Barack Obama will raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs. Raising the minimum wage only raises the cost of living, as well as inflation. Instead of having to raise their pay and create all these other problems why not just reduce the amount of money the government steals from them. (ie. Tax cuts) Obama will create a credit card rating system, modeled on five-star systems used for other consumer products, to provide consumers an easily identifiable ranking of credit cards, based on the card's features. Obama will create a Credit Card Bill of Rights to protect consumers. What gives the president the power to create something like this? What will it accomplish? If you want a credit card, read the fine print. I don’t need a federal bureaucracy to tell me if it’s a bad deal or not. Obama will reform our bankruptcy laws to protect working people, ban executive bonuses for bankrupt companies, and require disclosure of all pension investments. Bankruptcy laws are for the state governments to reform or keep the same, not the federal government. This statement is just pandering to class warfare. Now, more than ever, our nation and world needs a strong environmental leader as President. The challenges posed by global warming and energy needs can only be solved by someone with a proven commitment and ability to engage all people in the critical effort to provide a safe, clean future for America. He is just pandering to environmentalist, one of the most influential lobbyists in America. Everyone wants to keep the planet clean and prevent companies from polluting water that we would drink or let our children play in, but to strive for an environmental leader as a President, I don’t think so.
